Artist Archive Development Workshop

The Artist Archive Development Workshop is a project to teach basic archival fundamentals to artists to better organize and archive their work. It’s important that artists have the information and tools necessary to properly archive their work, their practice, and their career. The workshop is hosted by artist and archivist Quentin Pace, with assistance from Chelsea Joy White. It invites emerging, mid-career, and late-career artists to start the process of recording and preserving their artistic history. The workshop is open to artists of different principles from visual arts, literary, audio, and performing.

The workshop will be limited to 15 participants selected from the pool of submissions. Registration is required.

The agenda of the workshop will be as follows:

  • 11AM - Introduction and Presentation

  • 11:30AM - A visit to the archives of Floyd Newsum, with talk by Chelsea.

  • 12PM - BREAK

  • 1 - 4PM - Artists working on archives with guidance from Quentin and Chelsea.

Thanks to the Idea Fund, each selected participant will receive a an archival starter kit of sorts, composed of an 1 archival document storage box (12 ¼ x 10 ¼ x 5 in), 10 archival-grade folders, 5 archival polyester sheets, and a 36GB USB flash drive with eBooks and articles.

The goal of this workshop is that the artists who participate leave with a better understanding of how to organize their records, notes, documents, etc. to properly share their story.
